My name is Tarikh Campbell and this is my very first blog!  With this being my first post, I’ll share something that’ll help you get to know me better: 10 reasons why I’m excited for this summer!

  1. I’m starting a new adventure.  One week ago…I closed out a 6 year career in biotech as a chemical engineer.  Tomorrow…I begin a new chapter with Startup Institute Boston!  SIB is a program that guides people through a transition toward working in a startup.  My transition takes me into marketing, which is a field I’ve been dying to break into for years.  There are tons of amazing people at SIB and I can’t wait to work with them all summer.
  2. I am a hip hop dancer and choreographer.  I’ve been dancing at a high level for years, but I feel like this summer is going to be full of new opportunities.  I’ve been getting a ton of support from the Boston dance community which has opened new doors to working with very talented students, studios, and artists.  It has fueled my creativity and allowed me to create some really cool pieces.  I can’t wait to reveal them this summer!
  3. I’m going to THAILAND!  In July, a great friend of mine is getting married…in THAILAND!  It’ll be my first time visiting and I couldn’t be more excited.  I love traveling.  My most recent vacation was a road trip from San Diego to Seattle and before that I visited Korea, Japan, and Hong Kong.  I can’t wait for beaches, elephants, and authentic Thai food.  But most of all, I can’t wait to witness my friend marry the love of her life.
  4. I’m going to San Francisco for another wedding!  One of my old dance buddies is a co-founder of Infer. I get to be present for the happiest day of his life.  And as an added treat, I’ll be checking out SF Pride in the same weekend.  I support the LGBT community and can’t wait to join their celebration.
  5. J. Cole is coming to Boston (well…Mansfield, MA…same difference)! I love his music, with his most recent album being one of my top 3 for the year.  Not only is he a talented artist, but he’s a great live entertainer.  Those don’t always go hand-in-hand but he makes doing both look easy.
  6. My girlfriend just re-launched her bowtie business, The Magnetic Bowtie.  One of the things I love about her is how fashion forward and creative she is.  This is one of her dreams so it fills me with pride to see her going after it.
  7. MOVIES.  Let’s see: Mad Max, Jurassic World, Terminator Genisys, Ant-Man, and the Fantastic Four just to name a few.  I’m going to be spending a lot of time at the Fenway Regal theater this summer.
  8. Caribana!  Which is?  An annual celebration of Caribbean culture held in Toronto.  I actually haven’t been to one since I was a middle schooler.  A lot has changed since then and I’m long overdue for a cultural reawakening.  I can’t wait to party it up with good island music and an endless supply of Caribbean food.
  9. Summer in Boston is simply amazing.  Whether it’s watching the fireworks over the Charles on Independence Day or spending a weekend in Cape Cod, there are a million ways to enjoy Boston in the summer.
  10. Last but not least…it’s not winter anymore.

OK that last one was a bit of a cop out, so I’ll leave the 1oth reason to you.  What are you excited about this summer?  I’d love to hear about it!

Looks like an awesome ass summer my dude! And congrats on making the big move to follow new passions in marketing, etc. Takes guts to switch lanes.

I’m excited about being in SF this summer! I’ll catch you in SF when you come around. Not excited about missing you in Thailand since I get there pretty much after you leave.

Looking forward to reading your experiences on your upcoming summer here on the blog.

  2. 10th Reason- I’m excited to support you throughout this new journey. I’m also excited to see how this Boston dance community unites into something we have never seen before. Boston dance community is going super saiyan but let’s see what level of super saiyan we can get to haha.

I love that you’re starting a blog! I’ve been contemplating relaunching one. Not sure about what just yet. But J.Cole (we live? lol).

I obviously can’t stress how much I’m proud of you big bro, and how much you achieving your goals and dreams has had a profound impact on my ENTIRE life and it continues to push me to say “Yes I can do that. That’s not THAT hard. Just do it Shari!.”

I am excited about this summer because it is the first summer in over 5 years that I have not had a job. This realization killed me but a few weeks ago. How was I going to live? What am I going to do? I have bills to pay. How am I going to replenish my savings, blah blah blah. But God has indeed affirmed in me that this is my season of rest, and if He wanted me to have a job, I would have one. This summer has given me the first opportunity in a LONG time to just relax and do what I want. It has opened up thinking space for me to begin thinking on other ancillary goals that I’ve had, and even thinking up new ones and passions that I never thought of before. I’m reading (books that I like!) more than ever. I am catching up with old friends. I am continuing to work out 5+ times a week and really sustaining my healthy eating habits. I’m more involved in amazing groups at my church, including financial awareness seminars and racial reconciliation groups (yea, you ain’t know that happens in church, did ya???!). My life feels like it’s coming together. Super siked about helping others achieve their fitness goals too and thinking of starting a “Zumba in the Park” series in Quincy every week. ALSO (SORRY, THIS IS MORE THAN ONE, LOL), I’m travelling. God has blessed me in allowing me to save enough that I can finally achieve dreams to travel while still being up to date and on top of all my bills and priorities (without having a job, praise God!). I started off my summer with a beautiful trip to Louisville, Kentucky. I too, will be accompanying you to Caribana ;). I’ll be going to DR for the first time ever! And ending the summer with a trip to Dallas, TX.

So move over world, I am just as excited about this summer as anyone!

“I’ve been contemplating relaunching one. Not sure about what just yet.” Ummm, how about your comment as a start?! Sis, you have so much to tell the world. You have a beautiful mind full of thoughts, feelings, and dreams. Tell us about them! You’re truly living this summer. That’s what travel, joining new groups, and being active is all about. I love you and I love your writing. SO WRITE!
